Great shorts (if you are lucky to have the right waist size).
These Columbia shorts are generally absolutely great. The material is lightweight, but sturdy, the fit is good, and the design is outstanding in terms of being suitable for hiking and traveling. The cargo pockets are large and allow for safely carrying whatever you need on a trip, and one has a zipper, which is great. The only problem – as with any Columbia pants and shorts is that they only have even sizes. If your waist is size 33, like mine, then you are out of luck. Having no choice, I bought size 32, which is smaller than what I normally wear. It is OK, but a little tight in the waist. However, size 34 would be huge. My advice: if your waist size is an odd number (31, 33, 35, etc.), buy a size down. DO NOT buy a larger size unless you are in the process of gaining weight.

Awesome shorts. Comfortable, breathable, well-designed pockets, and while the included belt wasn’t all that great, swapping it out for a sturdier one resulted in basically perfect shorts.

I’m in my 50s and work in Cambodia where it’s 95-105F every day and 50% humidity. Next time I’m in the USA I’ll be getting a few more of these.The Good:Good looking, not formal and not childish.Lightweight, wicking, fast drying and comfortable and slippery.Deep pockets. 1 Zippered pocket. (A bit low on the leg)The less than optimal: (Minor points for improvement.)thin waist band tends to roll, included belt worthless, (I use a “Better BDU Belt” https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004WF4ZIC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1)some may have “modesty” problems because fabric is thin. If so just wear an athletic supporter. They fit loose enough that most will be fine.Mesh pockets may develop holes due to being cut by keys. Hopefully they’re strong enough.pockets a bit slippery making it easier for stuff to potentially slip out.3 MONTH UPDATE:Well… After about 3 months I took them off and noticed a 1″x1″ triangular tear in the front of the shorts. No idea how it happened but I must have caught them on something. Not as durable as I’d hoped since I didn’t feel it when they tore. Will still get another pair, and the convertible pants version for teaching at the university. (Will also order an iron on patch kit!) Otherwise I still love them.

Great Shorts: Very True-to-Size & 10L = Regular
Great shorts. They are very well made and lightweight.Warning: they are very true-to-size. Most pants manufactured today are larger than the listed waist. I’m sure they do that on purpose, but just take any pants out of your closet and measure the waist and it will likely be one or two inches larger than the listed size. Not these, they are very true-to-size. Also, the 10L is “regular,” per the tag and 12L is “tall.”Also, the fit is nice. A lot of shorts are overly baggy and tend to have very wide leg openings. These are akin to straight leg jeans; not skinny and not relaxed, but just in the middle.

They need a phone pocket – or deeper front pockets to put a phone in. Belt loops could be a bit larger to accommodate a real belt. Lightweight, fast drying, good fit, very cool when the temp get in the 90’s.

These shorts are very nice – light weight, comfortable material, and quick drying. I really like that you can pick the length of the shorts. I’m 6′ tall 200 lbs with long legs and often shorts look like hotpants on me. The 12 inch version of these come perfectly to the knee, and have enough room in the butt and thigh for people who work out.My only real complaint is that I typically fit a 33 waist in jeans, and I find the 34 waist feels the same. So if you’re in between sizes, you want to size up. Other than that, they are perfect for summer wear hiking, walking around, or jogging.
